IT Roadmap for Integrating a Healthcare System and Not-for-Profit Hospital
In 2019, a health care system was acquired by a children’s hospital, positioning itself as a beacon of hope for children who have complex healthcare needs. As a wholly owned subsidiary, the health care system has the resources to provide far-reaching health services, such as its own Medicaid plan, hospital and rehabilitation centers, home care agents, and parent foundation support. Together, the hospital and health care system are making strides toward eliminating obstacles that stand between those needing assistance and access to quality medical attention.
As the health care system became a part of the hospital, it needed to adapt its IT application and data infrastructure both to its new parent organization and to new regulatory requirements from Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Medicaid agency, the Affordable Care Act (ACA), and the 21st Century Cures Act. The health care system engaged Agilian to provide the blueprint for a seamless transition. Creating a detailed, strategic roadmap, we created an "as is" snapshot of the health care system that allowed teams from both organizations to identify ways to save money through improved care models and reduced risk, while unlocking innovative integration possibilities. Skilled project managers also provided Chief Information Officer (CIO) advisory services, thereby ensuring success throughout this important merger process.
Executive Summary version of the IT Merger Roadmap between the health care system and the hospital.
Result: The merger of the health care system with the hospital was a success due in large part to an IT consolidation roadmap, which enabled both teams to communicate clearly from their own perspectives. Keeping strategic concerns at the forefront facilitated the swift transition with minimal disruption for everyone involved.
